Help Is On The Way

“Oh, Dad, please have mercy on my poor ears!” My daughter dramatically covered her ears and acted like my singing was the worst thing she’d ever heard.

We were driving home from a Taekwondo tournament my daughter was in. It was about two hours away and my daughter and I take turns picking songs to listen to while we drive. She’ll pick five songs and then I’ll pick five songs. When it was my turn, I picked a song by Toby Mac called Help Is on The Way. It’s one of my favorite songs and I started singing along with it.

My daughter is sixteen, and sometimes she can be quite the drama queen. She was correct about my singing being less than desirable. I know it’s bad and abusive to anyone’s ears and she was probably wishing help was on the way to help her ears survive.

Do you ever feel like life is that way? Like it’s off key or out of tune and nothing seems to go right. No matter how much you pluck the strings or tap the keys, you never can get it in tune.

That’s why I like the song by Toby Mac because it reminds me God is always there and if we stop trying to tune things ourselves and let Him do it, He makes it into a beautiful harmony. He knows how the arrangement needs to go, and it’s much more pleasing to our soul.

I had mercy on my daughter’s ears and sang along quietly. Toby Mac sings it way better than I do. My daughter was happy, and we motored on home.
