No Power Steering

“I thought you were going to the store,” my wife said.
“I was, but when I started the car, I got a message that said the power steering needed servicing.”
I shook my head. “Have you ever tried to drive a car without power steering?”
“I don’t think so.”
“You’d remember if you did. It takes a lot of effort to turn the wheels. You don’t realize how much effort it takes to steer a car, and it’s easy to take the power steering for granted.”
“So, what are you doing now?”
“Changing my clothes and finding out why the power steering needs servicing.”
After I changed my clothes and inspected the car for a few minutes, I found a blown fuse. I drove my wife’s car to the dealer and bought a new one and installed it in my car. That took care of the problem.
“Is it fixed now?” she asked later that day.
“Yes, it is, and it made me think about how life is like that.”
“What do you mean?”
“Without God in my life, it takes a lot more effort to get through life. Sometimes, I have to muscle through all on my own and it’s difficult. But with God, it’s like I have power steering. Sure, there are roads I go down that are rough and full of potholes, but they’re much easier to navigate with power steering than without.”
“So, you’re saying getting through life is much easier with God than without God, even when you go through the inevitable rough patch?”
“Yes! I’m so proud of you, honey. You got my analogy on the first try.”
“That’s because I don’t have any blown fuses.”
“Are you sure about that?”
“You, mister, are about to have a blown fuse,” she playfully poked me in the ribs.
Let’s never take for granted God’s presence in our lives.
